Joe, Thanks for the response, you were 100% on target! I was a bit lazy, I guess, when I set up the preset for WSJT, and didn't clear the "Sound card PTT" check box on the PTT tab. I'm not 100% clear on WHEN that option would be used in preference to COM port PTT, but, with WSJT it is clearly a problem.
