Dennis, I bought my K3 primarily for use as an IF for VHF/UHF/mw, because...
the same reasons it is so good on HF: excellent selectivity low phase-noise LOs simpler down-conversion (less birdies) light weight very good freq. stability direct transverter interface designed for high performance CW upgradable SDR architecture phase-lockable dual receiver (for eme diversity reception) Your VHF+ application may be different which may affect your choice in transverters. If home-based the cable sprawl is manageable if portable or rover that may be an issue sources of transverters: Elecraft XV line Downeast Microwave* SSB Kuhne Engineering (db6nt) *what I chose is based on 15 years of using them. EME is my prime application, followed by weak-signal VHF+, followed by portable mw, followed by satellite, and general VHF-FM in order of interest and application. look over my website for more details. ------------------------------ Message: 26 Date: 16 May 2011 02:46:36 -0000 From: N9TZL <[email protected]> Subject: [Elecraft] K3? To: [email protected] Message-ID: <[email protected]> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8 Hello: I am considering the purchase of a K3 for the purpose of 6M, VHF, UHF and eventually Microwave contesting. Obviously this will result in using transverters with all the associated cabling to achieve this. I would appreciate hearing how you accomplished this, and why you picked the K3. Thanks to any and all who would email me directly or post to the reflector. 73, Dennis N9TZL 73, Ed - KL7UW, WD2XSH/45 ====================================== BP40IQ 500 KHz - 10-GHz www.kl7uw.com EME: 50-1.1kW?, 144-1.4kw, 432-100w, 1296-testing*, 3400-?
