Yes, it might be OK to give up full break-in to get the remote control capability. A lot of people don't use it anyway.
Right now I am helping out a local non-profit radio station which needs to temporarily move their studio while the old one is brought up to code. I'm looking at the Barix Instreamer and Exstreamer, a pair of little boxes that allow streaming audio over the web between the studio and a remote transmitter. Of course latency is not a concern in a one-way transmission like that.
