I did not go to Dayton, so I have not yet seen and held the KX3. So, my thoughts are based upon photos, videos, descriptions by Wayne and Eric, and personal experience with other equipment. One of the biggest complaints about compact radios is always control size and spacing. As I look at the KX3, it is apparent to me that a lot of thought has gone into both on this rig. I have read other people offer the suggestion that a "thinner" knob might be better. I disagree. If the tuning knob were reduced in height, then the other control encoder knobs would similarly have to be shortened. Otherwise, one would be bumping into those knobs while tuning. Shorter knobs all around would then put you right back into the poor ergonomics situation. I, for one, have never really gotten used to using a finger dimple for tuning. I usually end up with my forefinger on the outside edge of the tuning knob, and twirl the VFO that way. This would be more difficult with a lower knob. There is of course a long history of Amateur's personalizing their rigs. >From depleted uranium tuning knobs for a heavier feel, to broccoli bands for that splash of color. My K2 has a Yaesu knob on it, my K1, KX1, and K3 are stock. I'll take my KX3 straight up, please. Bruce, N1RX > It would be nice if the knob height on the KX3 was reduced.
