Fred, the cable is NOT required. However, it does more tightly integrate the KPA500 with the K3 by providing more communications between the two.
For example, the KPA500 will follow the K3 band switching before you transmit (rather than switching when RF arrives at the amp) and the K3 can sense the OPERATE/STANDBY status of the KPA500 so the K3 can set its output power as needed when the KPA500 is in operation and revert automatically to full output when the KPA500 is in STANDBY, etc. I believe a full description of the added functions is with the latest K3 firmware release. That release is required to get all of the interactive functions. I'll have mine on my K3, I don't have a P3 or any other band decoders and the like. Do I need to modify my order to include a cable? 73, Fred K6DGW - Northern California Contest Club - CU in the 2011 Cal QSO Party 1-2 Oct 2011 - www.cqp.org ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[email protected] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[email protected] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
