Since I stopped using HRD and turned Mac only, I have never once had the AGC turning off problem repeat itself (I am using a P3 too).
Therefore I am 100% sure that it is (what others have called 'aggressive') polling from HRD. It might be worth installing LP Bridge, because even though you may have no need to share a serial connection, it features buffering of the HRD data.
