I think the main selling point of Elecraft product is that older version can be field upgrade to the latest version. This can also be adversely interpreted in a naughty way as something 'work-in-progress' in the market :) - well, all depends how you view it. If you need a P3 now, just go for it. In future, if there is product improvement, you can always do the upgrade with minimal effort. I did all the upgrades to my earlier version of K3 myself -- nothing pain in the neck!
