Hi Kevin:

The K3's APF function does that nicely for me. It provides gain at a single
frequency so it stands out way above the other audio frequencies, and it has
a low enough Q that it doesn't make the band noise sound harsh like very
high slope factor filters do.

Years ago, many Hams the same thing with an acoustic filter. Put a small
speaker or phones transducer in the end of a pipe, and cut the pipe to
length to resonate at our favorite CW audio frequency. Even a headphone
transducer would produce plenty of room-filling sound if you didn't have a
bunch of racket in the room.

Almost like magic!

I was musing today about my K3. I like the receive equalization feature.
It allows me to boost the sidetone frequency and attenuate all the
others. I thought further. Why can't the equalizer attenuate everything
except my sidetone? Say your sidetone is 600 Hz. Do you really need to
hear 700 Hz or 500 Hz? By killing all the highs I can get rid of the ever
present hiss. What would happen if I could only hear 600 +/- some epsilon
Hz? Just a thought for a feature to put on the back burner and simmer a
while, like chicken stock.
