I use an Astron 70A linear supply for two K3s for SO2R and all my other 12V station equipment. I wanted to be able to transmit concurrently on both radios in case I decided to enter a multi-single or multi-two contest. If I were alone and never keyed two transmitters concurrently, a single 30- or 35A supply would fulfill all my 2 radio needs.
The KPA500 has its own internal AC (linear) power supply, it needs 20A at 120VAC, and is not connected to your station +12V power supply. 73 de Dick, K6KR -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Jack Regan Sent: Friday, August 05, 2011 2:18 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [Elecraft] K Line Power Requirements The specifications according to the manuals are: K3 20.0 A (recommended) 3-4 (typical) NOTE: When barefoot I run 100 Watts for CW, SSB and RTTY P3 00 .5 A KPA500 20.0 A FT-7800 00.5 A RCV NOTE: 6M, 2M, 440. I have an ASTRON RS-70M that has been running for 10 years with no problems. I was hoping to get a smaller, lighter supply to help simplify my setup. This is one of the reasons I am thinking of the KPA500, in spite of its high price. One alternative I am considering is the MFJ-4245M. Any advice and/or suggestions would be appreciated!
