The KPA500 built for my friend (I'm very envious!) is working great! I'm only able to test it up to about 200w due to dummy load, ATU and balun limitations, but 2 QSOs tonight reported strong, clean signal!
I have observed something, however. I was using 5w from my K3, through the KPA, to my ancient MFJ-945 ATU. I haven't used that ATU in quite a while, so my initial ATU adjustments caused a "REFL HI" fault on the KPA500. After that happened, my K3, went to 94w power setting (which is what I had it set to before this experiment). Happened twice. K3 firmware 4.39/2.73. KPA500 firmware 1.11.
