Operated Field Day as 1B (5w and battery power) into a 120 foot end fed wire launched out and over a 45' pine tree. The rig was a Elecraft K1 w/autotuner at 5W, with gel cell battery power. I laid out two radials for each band. In 4 1/2 hours I managed 170 contacts split pretty evenly between 20 and 40m, in 39 states and had a ball. I operated about 4 1/2 hours.
Having operated afield before, crouched under a tarp in the rain, swatting bugs and crawling things, sitting in my screened in patio with the ceiling fan running and a supply of soft drinks was a much more pleasant way to go. :-) The K1 with the filters cinched down is a wonderful rig...there were VERY few stations I heard but couldnt work. Glad to work so many good fists! FD is always fun! 73 John K5MO PS: A minor "nit" with the K1...the keyer memory buttons being where they are, make bumping the tuning knob very easy to do if you aren't accurate with your index finger, when selecting MSG1 !
