It is difficult at best to get multiple applications to share a serial port. In your case it is likely that both apps are sending queries to the radio causing collisions to occur. This can result in the apps locking up or in some cases the serial port on the K3 locking up.
I use DXLab for logging and SpectraVue with an SDR-IQ for a panadapter. They share the same serial port and play well together because I can configure DXLabs to not send queries to the radio. DXlabs will read the data returned from the radio from the SpectraVue queries.
