You can find suitable XP-Pro machinces for well under $100 at PacificGeeks.com.
I purchased a refurbished HP PC with one serical and one parallel plus a
handful of USB ports for $59.95 recently. I'm a broadcast engineer
(electronics and IT) for a nation-wide company where we still use XP on older
machines and purchase new ones with Windows 7. XP is not yet "dead" and will
continue to be viable even after Microsoft stops supporting it. However, when
one can't find up-to-date antivirus and firewall products for XP I would stop
using it on-line. Off-line use will remain safe. I have three computers with
Vista and have had no problems with any of them. One is my TV DVR, gets used
for browsing, and has been 100% reliable for over three years. I also use
Windows 7 which is no more or no less stable than Windows XP. Some ham radio
programs are less stable on Windows 7 than Windows XP, even with an appropriate
installation to avoid the more current security issues (UAC). XP
support (Windows Update) will continue through 2014 for all users. If one
Googles Windows XP support, the first link is to Microsoft's page where they
try to sell you Windows 7. If I were they, I would too! 73, Bill, K8TE > > I
