A few days ago, I reported a problem with my new K3. The confirmation/warning tone did not beep regardless of the menu setting. Yesterday it mysteriously reappeared and all is normal and proper.
Dale called from Elecraft today and I was told that if the MONitor level is not absolutely at ZERO, the beep won't be heard. So with me messing with the SignaLink and adjusting the audio levels, I must have set MONitor back to full zero.
