I was reconfiguring some things around for SS this evening. Coming out of the KEY jack on the rear panel I have one of those 1/4" male to dual 1/4" female splitters. One line from the splitter goes to the computer parallel keying interface and the other to a stand-alone keyer. With the bail opened to elevate the front of the K3 up, I discovered an intermittent in keying the radio.
I think what happened is the added length of the splitter is hitting the operating desk and probably broke the 1/4 inch phone jack connection to the PCB. Has anyone seen this before? I was able to go back to using only the computer keying and after SS I'll open up the radio and likely re-solder the 1/4" jack. Assuming I can get this fixed, the long-term fix is to get a short 1/4" male plug, maybe a rt angle guitar cable, and put the splitter away from the radio. There are so many plugs so close together in the back of the radio one needs to make sure this doesn't happen on other jacks. The K3 is the first radio I've owned that had the jacks so close to the operating desk. -- 73, Gary K9GS Check out K9NS on the web: http://www.k9ns.com Greater Milwaukee DX Association: http://www.gmdxa.org Society of Midwest Contesters: http://www.w9smc.com ************************************************ ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[email protected] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
