Jake, Yes, you should add the keying waveform mod - especially if you have the KPA100 installed. BUT, that has to do with the transmitted signal and keyclicks.
It has nothing to do with the receive part of the K2 during keying. Go to the menu T-R parameter, and set it to something greater than 006 (6 milliseconds) - then tap the DISPLAY button to change the 8R behavior to HOLD.
