I have received a number of invitations to join this network recently. The invitations have been from people who I do not know. I do not know whether these people have knowingly allowed this network access to their email lists or not. However, there have been some cases where I have received invitations directly, and not via a reflector list. I regard such invitations as constituting a serious violation of my privacy. I do not allow anybody to pass on my email address to anyone else without my express permission.
If a person wants to join any social networking system, that is their decision, and I am fine with that, but I would hope that they have a bit of common sense and consideration and not allow access to their email lists. Criminal use of email addresses, fraud and identity thefts have become major issues in all countries of the world, even for us living in Godzone downunder.
