As a potential future buyer of the KPA500, I have a few questions, for those who actually own it: What have you found to be the actual output power, on a dummy load using a good power meter other than the internal one. On 10M, I get 710Watts output at max power into a dummy load. (As if I would ever break our laws and use that much power on air!) All other bands I get an easy 650Watts output. Is the maximum output the same on all modes (CW/AM/FM etc.)? Yes it is. Is the maximum output the same on all bands (what happens on 30 meters)? Yes it is, you will have to set your radios drive level to achieve the maximum power output permitted. In the event of a high SWR, does the output begin to drop progressively, and/or does it just stop at some point? What is the typical SWR that will keep it happy at full output (without getting into a discussion of resonance and actual power out the antenna)? 2:1 is the cutoff point, before that, the amp will offer maximum power output. Finally, I read about the duty cycle of 10 minutes on and 5 minutes off, and I still wonder how it would keep it up with modes such as WSJT, where there is typically 30 seconds on and 30 seconds off? WSJT is I believe a low power mode, why would you even consider using a 500+Watt amp in this mode? Having said that, the amp will alter its cooling fan speed to suit its needs, if it gets too hot it will tell you and take itself out of circuit before anything gets harmed in it. 73 de Sebastian, W4AS ______________________________________________________________ 73 de Jeff Cochrane - VK4BOF East Innisfail QLD, Australia K3 #4257, P3#1629, KPA-500 #161 ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
