I think the manual notch is even more effective. Several times during SS SSB I sidled up to a BC station on 40, about 2100 Hz away, and was able to tune out the carrier completely with manual notch. There was very little effect on the SSB audio passband. I first tried auto-notch, but it didn't seem to work as well, at least in this non-dynamic situation.

Now, if I could only get all the RFI out of my SO2R headphone circuits, I'd be a happy camper.
