When I got my K3 kit sn 3840 new just about two years ago, I noticed the same noise. I cannot hear that noise now, and the friction point is perfect for me, with about .5 to .75 extra rotation on a firm spin. I wouldn't suggest putting anything on that felt washer, it will break in.
