Understood. The point is that I ONLY want to talk to the RS-232 interface. No 
xmit or 
recv is needed. I'll be in a Mac programming seminar at Big Nerd Ranch. Really.

I have one of those RS supplies in the shack, powering 4 receivers that listen 
for 
railroad traffic and send it to an aggregator which supplies data to a program 
that 
graphically displays train info. So far, noise hasn't been a problem.
