Jim, it is easy to turn down the power. Just use the power control and you can set any power you want down to 100 mw. The amp will kick out of the circuit when you set a power below 12 watts. I have not tested the power reading very well, as I have no watt meters that I think are more accurate than the K3 watt meter, but it tracks pretty well with my Daiwa which is of totally un-known accuracy.
