A comment on the standby receiver ... Its a good idea but like any piece of test equipment its important to know its capabilities. If you don't hear any spurs on it you are probably ok. On the other hand, if you do hear spurs, don't get too excited. Local receivers will often hear things that won't be heard a few miles away. So the suggestion of having a local ham doing some listening is a very good one. Ideally one could see what is heard when the primary rig is working properly.
