For me Julian, K7QO's CD is the best way to learn and increase CW speed. I had not hit a lick of CW since 1985. I checked my speed and I was copying solid at 10 wpm. With the K7QO CD <<MP3 Files> I went from 10-18 wpm in 3 weeks. I did it by spending 15 min at a time 3 or 4 times a day.
You are correct on CW being a hindrence to some people. I have a dear female friend in MS who cannot it seems pass the 5WPM exam. She does have a slight mental problem... She had decided to sell all her new equipment and antenna. I hope she hasn't The other thing... In the past when guests come by the ham station at National Museum of American History and discover there is a no-code license, their eyes perk up and immediately want the information how to get the license. I do think that most people should be able to get 5wpm. I figured the FCC would keep that requirement at least.
