Agreed - a new tube design would be moving in the opposite direction on the technological timeline. I operated the ARRL DX contest with K3/AL80BQ (QSK). Bandhopping was slowed by the need to tune the amp each time but I knew this going in and preferred it then and now to what the KPA500 offers at its cost. But for a 1500 watt amp w/o the need to tune - I think I could mentally/financially justify the "need".
