Do not be messing with toroids. They are NOT there to look pretty. The manual may not specifically warn against all possible ill-advised actions in your use of the product. There are millions of possible ill-advised things you can do to screw up your product. DO what the manual tells you to do and DON'T DO everything else. Stay to the script. That's the one thing Elecraft is writing and updating as carefully as they can. They put warnings in there when a lot of people are getting involved in the same screwup. There is no genius anywhere that can correctly anticipate all the strange things that customers will do.
