Tom, You have too many devices involved to say whether this is a problem with your setup and cables or whether it is a K3 problem.
Do you have anything connected between the Microkeyer and the K3 PTT input? If you are going to get PTT to the K3, you must have something connected to the PTT input. The other modes can use VOX to initiate transmit - my guess is that you have VOX set on for CW and RTTY, etc. and not for SSB. Do you have the correct microphone jack (front or rear) selected?
