Jo, Without adding the 6 kHz or 13 kHz filter, AM reception may be done using the 2.7 (or 2.8) kHz filter for Synchronous AM reception. That gives you a full 2.7 kHz audio width instead of constraining it to half that width when using regular AM demodulation.
