Thanks Rick (and Ron via email) for the pictures. I suppose I guessed they would be something along those lines. They are certainly not common in the UK; I don't recall ever seeing any and I have travelled a fair bit. There may be the odd one out there waiting for me to discover it though :-)

Along similar lines we have Summits on the Air (SOTA) over here with plenty of backpacking type activity at week-ends.
