In about 1999 or 2000 the FT-817 came out with an entry price of $799. The KX3 (kit) is $899. That is an increase of 899/788 = 1.13 or 13% over ten+ years. Sounds close to inflation for the period.
I sold my FT-817 to buy the KX3 as it looks to be a much superior radio. It cost me about the same for mic and CW filter for the FT-817 as those are for the KX3. I like the modularity concept offered by Elecraft as I can "build" the radio to suit my goals without buying stuff I do not need. I'm sure there may be cheaper mobile HF rigs...you get what you pay for (at least that is true with Elecraft). 73, Ed - KL7UW, WD2XSH/45 ====================================== BP40IQ 500 KHz - 10-GHz www.kl7uw.com EME: 50-1.1kw?, 144-1.4kw, 432-QRT, 1296-?, 3400-?
