I don't recall seeing an answer go by. I don't observe this anomaly, however I'm pretty much a CW operator. I do notice that, if I've had the power set to just light up the 500W LED and then turn the entire rig off, when I turn it back on, the 550W LED will light up when I first touch the paddle. Before I get more than a letter or two out, it's back to 500W.
