I've also had a few queries off-list, so I thought I'd reply to the original post with a summary for future reference. o Firstly, the update is not listed on the mods page. I do feel that it would be helpful to have an entry for this on the mods page, with proper instructions. I for one would be extremely vexed if my K3 failed completely in some remote and interesting spot because of a known fault that I could easily have remedied before leaving home.
