I don't have to *go* there, I have already *been* there.
All that Apple produced in the 1970 through 1990 period was proprietary.
Yes one addition to the Apple II was 3.5 inch drives.  I modified 
several Segate 3.5 inch drives to work with the Apple system because the 
price for the apple drives was more than 5 times the price of the Segate 
drive.

The current pricing situation may have evened out, but the early 
marketing practices of  Apple have soured my taste buds - if it has an 
Apple name on it, I will look the other way.
