Hi all, Some KX3 owners have reported issues with the internal speaker. During our search for the cause, we found that the fabric grille could vibrate if the volume was very high, so we started removing the grilles.
But based on a month's worth of field reports and our own further testing, we've concluded that in nearly all cases, edge-to-edge contact between the top and bottom covers is to blame, not the grille. As long as the grille is not creased and is kept flat when the speaker screws are tightened, it should stay out of contact range of the speaker cone. We're taking steps to correct the case issues (see recent posts on this topic). As for the grille, we've decided to put it back in, both in factory-assembled units and in the kit instructions. The grille has some utility in keeping out dirt, etc. If your grille was removed and you'd like to put one back in, we'll send you a new gasket/grille assembly at no charge. The installation is pretty easy and should only take a few minutes. My apologies for any convenience. 73, Wayne N6KR ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[email protected] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
