Hi there, Yes, I use my old unamplified D-104 microphone plugged into the front jack of my K3. There is a trick to it that I found reading Fred Cady's book on the K3.
Select front panel, no bias, and then push No. 7 on the keypad which turns on an additional internal microphone amplifier which greatly increases the mic gain. A small horizontal dash is displayed in the menu when this amplifier is activated. With the D-104 I set the compression to 17 and the Mic gain at 21. I have a Yamaha CM-500 headset plugged into the back. I use the same compression and mic gain settings for it but with bias turned on and the extra amp (7) turned off. It is a simple matter to use the menu to swap from the D-104 in front to the headset in the rear. 73 de Jack / W7LD / "Lucky Dog" ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ernie Kluft" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, July 29, 2012 4:33 AM Subject: [Elecraft] K3 Microphone Choice > > Is anyone using a D-104 without an amplifier in the base with their K3 ??? > > > ______________________________________________________________ > Elecraft mailing list > Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft > Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm > Post: mailto:[email protected] > > This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net > Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[email protected] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
