Roger, Be sure the MIC or LINE IN gain is set to give 4 flickering to 5 bars of ALC with your WSPR (or other DATA A mode) Tx audio applied. The most common problem in running digital modes with the K3 is setting MIC/LINE IN gain too low. This results in exactly the sort of "power creep" you desribe.
