Except it's very easy to change if you know what you're doing :) Better to rely on the serial number, while not impossible to change it's a lot harder.
For the purpose of proving ownership in case of theft, I have my name, callsign and email address on Dymo strips a couple of places inside my KX3 and K3 (no details here, be creative :).
