I'm a member of the AES Standards Committee Working Group on Connectors, and the Working Group includes representatives of major manufacturers of audio connectors, most notably Switchcraft and Neutrik. Likewise, virtually all major mfrs of pro mics are represented in the Microphone Working Group, of which I am also a member. Most of these manufacturers have major problems with counterfeits of their products, and dimensions are only one of the characteristics that don't meet specifications.
