The real ADC resolution - the one specified as ENoB (Effective Number of Bits)
- is
always less than the theoretical one (written with big letters in first
datasheet page).

IMHO there are a bunch of parameters more interesting than this theoretical one,
like ADC linearity & monotonicity, SFDR, FFTs for all the operational modes (you
can see there the HF noise of all delta-sigma converters, that will require
additional
work for you to minimize its effect in your application).

Making judgements for ADCs just based on a single number (be it the resolution),
will imho lead to wrong conclusions. There are 24-bit devices on the market,
that
have worse parameters than high-quality 16-bit converters, which means that I
won't hold my breath looking at any low-cost 24-bit device.

One final remark - I don't have any doubts tha the Elecraft engineering team has
done their homework while designing the K3 & KX3 SDR-based transceivers (like
selecting the proper ADCs and pushing their performance to the limits with all
the
hardware & software tools they had in the bag).

Kind regards,
Nikolay / LZ1NRD
