When I took the Extra exam in 1968, it was several years after taking the General exam and there was no Advanced class. I had to study for it quite a lot. Those who got their Extra license earlier would tell me that the exam was much easier when I took it than when they did as they needed to draw schematics of circuitry to pass and I didn't. That did not take the edge off my feeling of accomplishment.
