The K144RFLK is strongly recommended. There were frequency stability issues with the 116 and 118 MHz crystals (though believe this was improved sometime in the last year or so) used for the injection frequency at the tranverter. The K144RFLK removes that problem, because the root frequency reference will be the TCXO in the K3 (or the K3EXREF source if you have a 10 MHz lab reference avaiable).
