Put a 50 ohm resistor or dummy load on one side and connect the other to an 
antenna 
analyzer or radio with SWR bridge. If the SWR is close to 1:1 then it is a 1:1 
balun. If 
it is more like 4:1, then it is a 4:1 balun!
