The knurled thumb screws on my KXPD3 were hard to turn. One was OK but
the other was misaligned. I thought it might be that the alignment of
the screws might be out of tolerance or something. However, when
checking how they lined up without the paddle's PC board in place, the
screws fit perfectly and screwed in easily. Drilling out the two
mounting holes nearest the KX3 in the KXPD3 PC board to 1/8" fixed the
problem. It seems that some combination of alignment of the 4-pin
connector and the PC board's mounting holes was just enough to torque
the aluminum paddle hardware to slightly misalign the screws. 
YMMV.
