To become a proficient CW Operator the individual should most certainly learn Morse Code as a Language just as infants learn to talk. Learn the sound and rhythm of words, then phrases and copy in your head. Throw away the Pen and Paper. I teach beginners Morse Code at 20 WPM, they don't know the difference so why start at 5 WPM when you can learn at 20?
