Thanks to all that replied off list with suggestions. The problem is fixed. It was actually two problems. The first and most severe was RF feedback into the transmit audio. I put a ferrite on the mic cable from the Radio RRC box to the K3 and that helped some, but reducing power to about 15 W cured it. It also disappeared when I tested with a dummy load. Then I need to adjust the codec gain values on the Radio RRC. The audio now sounds great.
I am not sure if I had RF pickup in the Control RRC or the Radio RRC or both. I am going to deploy the system to the remote site and see how it works there with an antenna that is farther removed than my stealth antenna at home (that's why I need a remote site). I will also be using an amp at the remote site. The supplied mic cables in the cable kits are made with a couple of feet of CAT-6 Ethernet cable and a mic and PTT cable spiced on the end. I am thinking about making a new one for the radio end with shielded CAT-6 and see if that helps. The RJ-45s on the RRC boxes are the shielded types so I will get a grounded shield on that end. The next question will be if I should connect the CAT-6 shield to the mic and PTT shields at the splice point. I may need to experiment with that. I also have a supply of ferrites (bit ones) to play with. 73, - Craig, AE6RR -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Craig - AE6RR Sent: Friday, November 16, 2012 9:35 AM To: Elecraft Reflector Subject: [Elecraft] K3/0 to K3/100 RemoteRig transmit audio problem I am using a K3/0 and a K3/100 with the RemoteRig boxes. I have the standard versions as sold at HRO not the ones with the special microphone jumper module. I jumpered the mic connections as shown in the RemoteRig manual on page 193 and I have horrible digital noise on my transmit audio even with a microphone plugged directly into the control RemoteRig box. The PTT does work OK. Any ideas on this one? 73, - Craig, AE6RR ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[email protected] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[email protected] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
