The KAT500 Utility gets its inventory of serial ports from the Windows operating system, and those are updated by device driver installation. What does the Windows Device Manager say your ports are?
I plugged the KXUSB (the USB to serial adapter that came with my KAT500) into a USB hub and device drivers were installed by Microsoft Update (it took a little while to get them over the internet). Then when I saw a "device is ready to use" message, I started the KAT500 Utility and it found the new port. Just hooked up the KAT500 and went to configure with the utility. However, the utility is only showing ports 3 and 6 as available. Port 3 is where I have the K3 plugged in and the only spare port I have, which is on the end of a 4 way USB splitter, is apparently not port 6! The USB splitter is plugged into port 4, so I removed it and plugged the KAT500 cable into port 4, expecting the latter show as the available port, but it still only gave me the options of 3 or 6. I tried another port to no avail. Have read the help file tip about the manage facility on My Computer and see that the device does attach itself to port 6... which it cannot connect to. BTW, I have no idea which is physically port 6...
