It's a long shot and may be completely irrelevant but what's your AGC threshold (MENU: AGC*THR)? Default is now 005 (was 007 in the past), but wonder if you've tried varying it.
Regarding receiver performance - again, maybe a stretch here - but when I first got my KX3, I found myself in disbelief at the fact that a signal was so weak, until I realized I was listening to it on the wrong side of zero beat. For whatever reason, it was just copyable, and instead of tuning farther out, I tried to narrow down on that image until I gave up and tuned away, and found the real signal. I don't imagine that's your problem but thought I'd mention it. I assume the differences you're hearing between KX3 and K3 aren't quite as drastic. 73, --Andrew, NV1B maineware.net ..
