Ray,

That last turn can be difficult, especially if the other turns are not aligned "just right". I have a tapered stainless steel probe that I often use to compress those first turns a bit and make a hole for that last turn. A piece of #12 solid copper wire would do the same thing. I would not recommend using a wooden stick because it might break inside the hole and would be difficult to remove.
