Because ultimately it is simpler and keeps extraneous noises off of the air such as system sounds. It also means that you can set/forget audio settings once properly set. If you choose to use a soundcard, a cheap USB soundcard is just fine.
Of course, PSK is inherent in the K3 abilities so a simple terminal program is sufficient too.
