I'd agree that the Tenna Dipper is a simple, inexpensive alternative to the antenna analyzer. Another simple and inexpensive alternative is an antenna noise bridge of the type that uses the transceiver itself as the frequency determining element. These gadgets are broad- banded so they cover the whole HF spectrum continuously. Palomar Enginners, Heathkit, MFJ, and perhaps others made them.
